The Funds
The Maundrell Family Funds have been active for more than 10 years. The first, The Vintage Years Fund, started in 2000 and was fully invested by 2007. The second, The Willow Investment Fund (now known as The First Willow Investment Fund) started in 2007 and was fully invested in 2010. These Funds have invested more than £2m in 12 enterprises. By 31 December 2010, three of the 12 enterprises had been exited, raising some £3.4m before tax.
The family is now initiating a new fund, to be known as The Second Willow Investment Fund. This fund will invest, where possible, under the EIS scheme and be focussed on entrepreneurial, early stage investments in the South of England.
Prerequisites to investment are:
A comprehensive business plan, which will bare scrutiny
Initial sales or significant order promises
A strong brand identity and/or ownership of intellectual property
Or involvement with property.
Most importantly, we will put great emphasis on the business leader who will need to demonstrate the skills and drive required to turn an early stage opportunity into a thriving and profitable enterprise. Finance up to £150k can be provided in the most appropriate form given the size and stage of development of the enterprise. This could, for example, be a straightforward equity investment or mezzanine debt finance.
